Tyres Fitted at Home or Work
Yes, you can have tyres fitted at home without the car going anywhere: we bring the tyre, the fitting machine and the wheel balancer to your drive, the parking space outside your house or your office car park. Call with your tyre size or registration, a fitter typically arrives within 30 to 60 minutes, and each tyre takes 20 to 30 minutes to fit once we are there.
What's included
- The tyre matched to your registration or the size, load and speed rating on the sidewall before we set off
- Budget, mid-range or premium tyres from the van, or the tyres you bought online and had delivered
- Old tyre broken off the rim and the new one mounted on the van's tyre machine, beside your car
- Every wheel balanced on the van before it goes back on, so there is no shake at motorway speed
- Valve checked and replaced where it has perished, pressures set to the figure on your door pillar or handbook
- Cars, SUVs, 4x4s, electric cars including Teslas, and vans
- Your worn tyres taken away for licensed recycling, nothing left on the drive
- Card or contactless payment at the car when the job is done
Why choose Fast Tyre for tyres fitted at home
A garage visit costs you the drive there, the wait and the drive back, and on a worn or damaged tyre that drive is the part you would rather avoid. Having the tyre fitted where the car already sits removes all three. You carry on working, cooking or putting the children to bed while the job is done twenty steps from your front door. We are fully insured, every tyre we supply carries a 2-year warranty, and a night, a Sunday or a bank holiday costs exactly the same as a weekday morning.
How a tyre change at home works
Four steps, and you only need to be involved in the first and the last:
- The call and the size check. Read us the size from the tyre wall, for example 225/45 R17 94W, or give us the registration and we look it up. We confirm the tyre, quote you on the phone before anyone sets off, and agree whether you want us now or at a time that suits you later.
- The fitter arrives. Typically within 30 to 60 minutes if you want us straight away, at any hour. The van parks as close to the car as it can, because the tyre machine and balancer stay on board.
- Off, fitted, balanced, back on. The wheel comes off, the old tyre is removed, the new one is mounted and inflated, and the wheel is balanced on the van before it is refitted. Around 20 to 30 minutes per tyre.
- Checked, paid, cleared away. Pressures are set, the other tyres get a look so you know what is coming, and your old tyres are taken away for licensed recycling. You pay by card or contactless at the car.
Getting tyres fitted at home: what we need on the day
Very little. The fitter needs a firm, flat surface under the car, enough room beside the wheel to kneel and work, and space for the jack to go under the sill. A block-paved drive, a tarmac parking bay, a garage forecourt or a level spot on a residential car park are all ideal. A steep slope is the one thing we will ask you to move the car off before we lift it.
Three things from you make it quick: the car keys, so we can take off the handbrake or the steering lock if we need to; the locking wheel nut key, usually in the glovebox, the boot side pocket or under the boot floor with the spare; and a sentence about where the car is parked. If the locking nut key has gone missing, say so on the call and we bring the kit for locking wheel nut removal rather than discovering it on the drive.
You do not need a driveway. Plenty of the cars we fit sit in a residents' bay, a shared car park or a mews; our guide to fitting tyres without a driveway runs through the usual set-ups. Nor do you need to watch: hand over the keys, go back indoors and we knock when it is done.
Tyres fitted at work, in the office car park
A car that sits in a staff car park from nine to five is a car that can have new tyres without you losing a minute of the day. Give us the address, the car park entrance and the bay or level, and leave the keys at reception or bring them down when we call.
The one thing to sort before we arrive is permission. Car parks belong to someone, and security or facilities usually like to know before a contractor starts work, and some underground car parks have a height barrier a fitting van cannot pass. If yours does, tell us and we will agree a spot at ground level. The longer version, including how firms book several staff or pool cars in one visit, is in our guide to tyres fitted at work.
Cars, 4x4s, electric cars and vans
Family cars and SUVs. The bulk of what we fit, from city hatchbacks on 15 inch wheels to large SUVs on 21s. Low-profile and run-flat tyres are done on the van too; mention them on the call so we bring the right tyre and allow the time.
4x4s. Bigger, heavier wheels, and on permanent four-wheel drive the tyres matter as a set: many makers ask for matching tyres all round, with similar tread depth, because the drivetrain feels any difference in rolling size. Check your handbook, and we will tell you on the phone if replacing just one or two looks unwise. Our 4x4 and SUV tyre guide covers road, all-terrain and all-season choices.
Electric cars and Teslas. An EV is heavier than the petrol equivalent and delivers its torque instantly, so the replacement must match the load and speed rating the car was built for, not just the size. Tesla marks the tyres it has approved with a T on the sidewall (T0, T1 and so on), and some of those carry a foam liner to cut road noise; tell us what is on the car now and we match it. Teslas and other EVs are lifted only at their designated lift points, never under the battery pack, and we never raise a car that is still plugged in, so unplug the charge cable before we arrive or we will ask you to. If a pressure warning stays on afterwards, tyre pressure sensor replacement is done at the same visit. More background is in EV tyres explained.
Vans. Light commercial vans get the same treatment, at the depot, on the street outside a job or at home overnight; see mobile van tyre fitting for load ratings and fleet visits. We do not fit caravans, trailers, motorbikes, lorries or HGVs.
Own tyres fitted: bought online, delivered to you
Tyre fitting only is a large part of what we do. If you have ordered tyres online, have them delivered to your home or office and we fit them exactly as we fit our own: mounted, balanced, valves checked and pressures set. Before you press buy, check three things against the tyre on the car: the size, the load index and the speed rating (the 94W in 225/45 R17 94W). The four-digit date code on the sidewall tells you the week and year the tyre was made.
Our article on fitting tyres bought online explains what to look for in an order, and online tyres versus a mobile fitter's own stock weighs up when buying your own makes sense.
Home fitting from us versus booking a national chain
The national chains sell mobile fitting as a booked appointment: you choose a day, often the next one or later, and get an arrival window. That works if the tyre can wait. We work the other way round: you call, we confirm the tyre is on the van, and in most cases you can have it fitted today, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays. If you would rather plan ahead, a slot after work or before the school run is just as easy.
Is it more expensive to get tyres fitted at home? With us the price is quoted on the phone before anyone sets off, with no hidden extras and no out-of-hours surcharge, so the figure you agree is the figure you pay. If you are comparing options across London more widely, our page on tyre fitting and replacement near you sets out how cover works by area, and the homepage explains our mobile tyre fitting across London as a whole.
Where we fit tyres at home and at work
We work from our North London base and fit tyres on drives, in residents' bays and in workplace car parks right across London and the surrounding counties, with Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Bedfordshire covered as well as the capital. Choose your town below for the local page, or just call: if the car is in London or the surrounding counties, we will come to it.
Tyres Fitted at Home, frequently asked questions
Yes. That is the whole service: a fitter comes to your home, workplace or wherever the car is safely parked, at any hour, and replaces the tyre there. If the tyre has gone flat suddenly rather than worn out, our emergency tyre callout is the faster route. If you are on a motorway, hard shoulder or slip road, call 999 or National Highways on 0300 123 5000 first; we fit once the car has been moved off the motorway.
Typically 30 to 60 minutes for the fitter to reach you, then 20 to 30 minutes per tyre once on site, balancing included. A full set of four takes proportionally longer but is still one visit, and the car never moves.
We quote on the phone before anyone sets off, with no hidden extras, and there is no out-of-hours surcharge for nights, weekends or bank holidays. Ring with your size or registration and you will have the exact figure for your car before you decide.
Done properly, the result is the same as a fitting bay because the equipment is the same: a tyre machine to mount the tyre and a wheel balancer, both carried on the van. We are fully insured, the tyres we supply carry a 2-year warranty, and repairs are made to BS AU 159. What we do not offer is wheel alignment (tracking), so that remains a garage job.
No. Someone needs to hand over the car keys and the locking wheel nut key, and to pay by card or contactless at the end, but you do not need to stand and watch. Plenty of customers leave the keys at reception at work and collect the car at lunchtime.
Yes. Have them delivered to wherever the car will be and we fit them as we fit our own: mounted, balanced, valves checked and pressures set. Check the size, load index and speed rating match the car before ordering.
Swapping a wheel for the spare is a job many drivers can do with the car's own jack, though plenty of newer cars carry an inflation kit instead of a spare. Changing the tyre itself is different: getting the old tyre off the rim and seating the new one needs a tyre machine, and the wheel then needs balancing or it will vibrate. Doing it by hand risks damaging the tyre bead or the alloy. If you are without a spare, our guide on what to do with no spare tyre explains your options.
Yes. We match the load and speed rating and, on a Tesla, the T-marked tyre the car was supplied with where you want like for like. The car is lifted only at the maker's lift points, and it needs to be unplugged from its charger before we raise it.
Often, yes. If the damage is a nail or screw in the central part of the tread and the tyre has not been driven flat, we can repair it on the drive to BS AU 159. Our puncture repair page explains when a repair is allowed and when the tyre has to be replaced.
No. We fit 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, bank holidays included, and the price is the same whenever we come.
